Winter Golf in the American West | Montrose, Colorado
Winter on the Western Slope has a way of stripping things down to their essentials. The fairways go quiet, the ground hardens, and the game becomes less about score and more about presence — a slow ritual against a cold horizon.
I photographed Cobble Creek in that stillness, when the sun hangs low, shadows run long across frozen turf, and horses graze just beyond the rough. Out here, golf isn’t polished or manicured. It lives beside pasture fences, winter light, and the kind of silence only small towns know.
These images aren’t about performance. They’re about rhythm — the small moments that hold the game together. A glove tightened. A tee pushed into cold ground. A bag resting against a cart while the mountains look on.
This is golf at the edge of the American West. Not a destination, a way of living in place.
